Brendan Sweeney was born and raised in Bergen County, NJ with his parents, Marcella & Dennis and two siblings, Meghan & Sean. Brendan attended Bergen Catholic High School and then went on to Fairfield University and graduated with a BSN in Nursing in 2018. It was during his junior year at Fairfield University when he discovered his passion for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. The summer before his senior year, Brendan embarked as a nursing intern at Memorial Sloan Kettering on the Pediatric Inpatient Unit. After graduation, Brendan started as a clinical nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering on the Pediatric Inpatient Unit in August 2018. Brendan spent many special moments with Jojo throughout his various admissions at MSK. Jojo inspired Brendan to learn many aspects of nursing and remains to have a big impact on the nurse he is today.
Emma Salter was born and raised in Manhasset, NY with her parents and four brothers. Emma attended Sacred Heart Academy and then went onto Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At Marquette, she played Division 1 lacrosse and graduated with her BSN in 2017. Emma started her nursing career at Memorial Sloan Kettering as a student intern the summer prior to her senior year. Since graduating from Marquette, Emma has been a clinical nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering on the Pediatric Inpatient Unit. While caring for Jojo, Emma and him always found time to smile and laugh in moments of such hardship.
It is our privilege and great honor to celebrate these incredible nurses/friends/unsung heroes at our Inaugural JJLF Golf Outing this year on July 29 at the St. George’s Golf & Country Club in Setauket.
It takes a special kind of person to do what Emma + Brendan do every day as a Pediatric Oncology Nurse.
In our book they're absolute angels on earth. We can never thank her enough for the love and care they showed JoJo (and Gina) during his numerous extensive stays at MSKCC.
They were an integral part of JoJo’s team and he loved them both dearly. Even to this day they travel out to Jojo's home for drinks and dinner with his mom, Gina.
This such a small token of our appreciation. There is no way to adequately thank them for all that they did.
We invite all to join in the celebration on Monday, July 29 @5:30 pm,
